Tsurkva Sveta Bogoroditsa
In the small village of Tlachene, Bulgaria, stands a silent and forgotten building: the Church of the Holy Mother of God, or Tsurkva Sveta Bogoroditsa. This church was built in 1921. For urban explorers, it is a peaceful place full of history and emotion. Cracks in the walls and broken windows tell the story of time, loss, and hope.

The people of the village paid for the construction themselves. It was finished and opened in 1928. For many years, the church was the heart of the village. Tlachene is part of the Byala Slatina Municipality in the Vratsa District. Today, the village has around 400 people. Their number is slowly falling, just like the plaster on the walls of their church.
The church is a large stone building with a tower and beautiful details. The residents abandoned the church in the year 2000. It was closed because the priest left the village, there was no other preacher.
Bad condition
Time, however, has not been kind. Today, the church is in bad condition. Its walls are damaged, and it cannot be used anymore. Still, there was hope. In 2015, a new roof was placed on the building. On October 21, 2015, the villagers re-opened the church. One year later, part of the building was repaired again. But these small steps were not enough.
Help
Now, the people of Tlachene are asking for help. They want to bring their church back to life. But they do not have the money to continue. They hope others will support the repair and restoration of their temple. Tourists and photographers can visit the church, the door is open. Please leave a donation, so the church can be restored to its former glory. If restored, this church could once again be a place of light, prayer, and community.
This church is more than just a building. It is a symbol of the village’s past and faith. It stands quiet and empty, waiting for a new chapter.
