In June 1906 they started building a second ring of defensive forts around the city of Antwerp. This fort was ready in 1911. But the fort was not ready for the modern artillery and the fort was soon taken over by the German army in 1914 during WW I.
The fort was shortly used for weapon storage after the war, but soon came abandoned.
Nowadays the fort is the home for many bats, owls and other animals. The place is forbidden ground and a nature reserve.
